When I saw these, my first thought was ! new slippers ! because (1) I have spine/back issues and need a supportive shoe no matter the purpose; (2) I have all tile floors with room rugs due to allergies; ((3) I am semi-retired, and do a lot of walking around every day all day on my tile floors; and (4) my poor Haflinger felt clog slipper is getting too worn to make it through this winter. They are loved but they are like $130 (got mine for $30 Warehouse Deals) so, as these Chaco were offered at around $24 as a return from someone else, I got them thinking ahead to this winter. I read the maker's remarks that these are "hiking" shoes which I find odd. Not many people go hiking, at least around here, wearing a slip-on mule. I was still thinking "slipper" when they arrived and I opened the box. I do really like the fit - it is near perfect for size 11/42. More narrow in the toe box than the Haflinger (which has the WIDE curved inward toe box) but a really great fit. I figured I was not going to be sending these back. Then I wore them - barefoot, as a slipper - for just a few minutes. The removable insole is some kind of plastic, and as its edges continually rubbed my heels I also felt this odd slippery & semi-squishy sensation on my bare foot. I I tried to get used to that odd feeling but fear I cannot. I thought about getting wool felt out of my sewing materials to glue it in around the heel - but those are removable insoles, and anything to hide the feel of them would not be removable. A quandary. I will probably return them, and keep looking for a new slipper.
